BHAFC v CUFC (9/8/16) | EFL Cup R1 Preview

An interesting cup tie takes place this evening between Brighton and Colchester. Brighton got off to a good start at the weekend with a good-looking draw away at Derby, while Colchester started life in League Two with an away draw at Hartlepool. While Brighton may not field a fully strengthened side, both teams will be wanting to progress, especially with the prospect of playing a Premier League team in the next round.

Colchester News;

Colchester are without Matt Briggs and Owen Garvan, but former Seagull Brennan Dickenson is set to return to the match day line-up. Chris Porter will be the main danger man for the U’s, while goal scorer on Saturday Tom Eastman should be on top of things in defense.

FACT; Only won 9 league games all last season, and had a streak of 19 winless games midway through the season.

Brighton News;

Chris Hughton is set to name summer signing Oliver Norwood in the team, with Dale Stephens sidelined with a supposed injury. Cup keeper Niki Maenpaa will likely resume his cup duties, while there might be room for the likes of Richie Towell, Rob Hunt and Ben White all to get a game in.

FACT; Haven’t lost a home in the last 11 games.

Last Time We Met; CUFC [1]-[1] BHAFC (25/4/11)

A much changed side since we last played Colchester 5 years ago, with only Lewis Dunk surviving from the match day 18, a team which consisted the likes of Francisco Sandaza, Radostin Kishishev and Marcos Painter. A goal from Ian Henderson gave the U’s a first-half lead, but Ashley Barnes equaliser 18 minutes from time to gain an away point.

Brighton have won 17 of the games played between the 2 sides, with Colchester registering 10 wins, while there has been 17 draws.

Likely Line-Up;
